ELECTRICITY
— MUJA A AND B REFURBISHMENT
167. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the Minister for Energy:
I refer to the Muja AB power station refurbishment.
(1) If the
Vinalco joint venture is structured in such a way as to ensure Verve Energy is
not exposed to additional costs, as has been claimed by the government, why has
it been necessary to spend an additional $100 million on this project?
(2) On what
date will the refurbishment be complete, with all four units online?
(3) How much
has the joint venture paid in total in capacity payment refunds; and, what is
Verve's share of this amount?
(4) What will
be the total cost of the refurbishment of Muja AB?

I thank the member for the question.
(1)–(4)
As the member knows, the Muja A and B revitalisation has not gone well and the
joint venture is in trouble. I have not gotten complete advice on when the
plant will be completed, when the plant will be online in full, what the
capacity credits will be and what the total cost of the plant will be. I have
not made a final decision on those as yet. I expect to do so shortly and I am
sure the member will ask a related question around that time.
