(1) I am advised that the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) has not yet reviewed the Safety Exclusion Zone (SEZ) as this will relate to future pit parameters, which are not yet determined. The SEZ is not determined by the location of the by-pass road. (2) & (3) DME has no knowledge of the timing and extent of purchase of residential properties. The purchase and sale of property by Australian companies and citizens is a matter for the parties concerned. (4) & (5) Mining operations are governed by the Mines Safety and Inspection Act (1994) which provides for adequate control on mining activities. DME?s mining inspectorate will continue to monitor operations and will direct any control measures or precautions which may be identified as necessary in future operations.
