POLICE — TRAFFIC INFRINGEMENTS
1166. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
(1) Is it
possible for someone who has lost their driver's licence to receive an
infringement during the penalty period and then pay for that offence?
(2) If yes, how
many drivers who had lost their driver's licence subsequently received
and paid for an infringement during the penalty period in —
(i) 2023; and
(ii) 2024 to
date?

I thank the Leader of the Opposition
for some notice of the question. The Western Australia Police Force advises the
following.
(1) Effective
from 1 July 2024, the responsibility for the processing and issuance of traffic
infringements was transferred from the WA Police Force to the Department of
Transport.
(2) The WA Police Force cannot provide a response to
this question as prior to 1 July 2024, specific data relating to drivers
on a suspended licence who subsequently received and paid for an infringement during
their penalty period was not captured on the
then WA Police Force's image and infringement processing system .
