FOREST PRODUCTS COMMISSION — SAWLOGS
1212. Hon LOUISE KINGSTON to the Minister for Forestry:
I refer to the Forest Products
Commission's supply of sawlogs to meet all contractual obligations.
(1) Did the
minister, as revealed in The West Australian of 9 September 2023, direct
the Forest Products Commission to divert 120 000 tonnes of sawlogs to be
stockpiled for firewood?
(2) If no to (1), who gave this
direction?
(3) How will the FPC meet its contractual
obligation for all sawlog deliveries?

(1)–(3) The
piece in The West Australian that the member referred to is an opinion
piece, not an article based on factual information. To suggest that sawlogs are
being used for firewood is offensive to the FPC staff and also the contracted
professionals who operate across the south west. As I have previously stated,
sawlogs are not used for firewood and the FPC continues to work with its
consumers who have supply agreements to meet the FPC's demands.
