The number of induced abortions over 20 weeks’ gestation from 1998 to 2008 is as follows: in 1998, 12; in 1999, 22; in 2000, 33; in 2001, 18; in 2002, 26; in 2003, 22; in 2004, 27; in 2005, 36; in 2006, 28; in 2007, 24; and in 2008, 33. I indicate, too, that induced abortion data are prepared on a calendar year basis, which is similar to the basis on which the birth data are compiled. I would also point out in relation to the 1998 figure that the abortion legislation was enacted in May 1998, so figures for 1998 represent occurrences after that date.
