WORKSAFE — PROACTIVE INSPECTION PROGRAMS
143. Hon KATE DOUST to the Minister for
Commerce:
I refer to WorkSafe's proactive inspection programs for 2015–16.
(1) How many inspection programs are underway?
(2) For each inspection program —
(a) what is the program looking at and what prompted the program;
(b) does it include both metropolitan and regional areas of the state;
(c) how many inspections have taken place and how many are scheduled;
(d) will the findings of the inspection program be made public; and
(e) have any notices been issued or enforcement action taken?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) WorkSafe has 44 proactive programs
planned for 2015–16, of which 37 are currently underway.
(2) For such a large number of proactive
programs it would be impractical to answer this question with reference to each
individual program in the time available.
(a) WorkSafe's proactive programs
are a result of an annual planning process that includes consideration of
industry intelligence and the findings of previous inspections.
(b) Yes.
(c) There have already been 2 769 proactive
inspections conducted, the majority of which have related to programs. There
are 3 977 proactive inspections scheduled for 2015–16, the majority of
which relate directly to programs. WorkSafe will continue to proactively visit
as many workplaces as possible.
(d) Findings are not published as such;
however, aspects of proactive programs are incorporated in WorkSafe's
education programs and in emailed newsletters. Key findings may also be
communicated via safety alerts or bulletins if operational directors deem it
appropriate.
(e) Yes.
