Education—Respectful relationships programs
729. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for
Education:
I refer to my
questions during budget estimate hearings when I was advised that the
Department of Education could not answer questions on the respectful relationships
program in WA schools because it is a Department of Communities program.
(1) Does the Department of Education oversee and
approve the contents of all programs being delivered across Western Australian
schools?
(2) If yes, why could the department not answer
questions about the contents?
(3) If no, why not?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. This answer is provided on
behalf of the Minister for Education.
(1)–(3) In public schools, principals who
know their school communities best have responsibility for the programs used in
their schools to deliver the Western Australian curriculum. The department is
not responsible for the selection of programs in non-government schools.
