Hon Wendy Duncan asks for a detailed cost breakdown and timeline for all stages of the Hopetoun-Ravensthorpe wastewater treatment scheme. The Minister provides the cost for stage 1 and indicates stage 2 costing is dependent on the treatment model chosen, with commencement not expected before 2012-13.

HOPETOUN-RAVENSTHORPE WASTE WATER TREATMENT SCHEME
I refer to question without notice 514, regarding the Hopetoun-Ravensthorpe waste water treatment scheme, in which I asked the minister to detail the cost of all stages of this crucial project. In his response, the minister gave the cost of only stage 1. Can the minister now provide details of the cost of all stages and the timetable for their completion? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Wendy Duncan and apologise if I did not give an answer that was as full as it should have been. The government has funded the Hopetoun waste water scheme stage 1, for an estimated population of 1 100, at $16 million. Stage 2 would increase treatment capacity for an estimated population of 3 500. LandCorp is investigating smaller local waste water treatment options. Costing for stage 2 will depend on the model chosen for waste water treatment. That project is not proposed to commence prior to 2012-13.
