INDUSTRIAL HEMP
1561. Hon SOPHIA MOERMOND to the Minister for Agriculture and
Food:
I refer to Western Australia's
industrial hemp industry.
(1) Does the government have a strategic
plan related to industrial hemp?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. I provide the following answer on behalf of the Minister for
Agriculture and Food, who is out of the chamber on urgent parliamentary
business.
(1)–(2) The Department of Primary Industries and Regional
Development is leading national variety hemp trials in alignment with the national industrial hemp
strategic research, development and extension plan 2022–2027. Since 2019, the Cook Labor government has invested over $4.1 million in
research, industry development and targeted grants to support the growth of Western
Australia's emerging industrial hemp sector, while encouraging industry
collaboration to advance its strategic direction.
