I refer to the group of eight year 11 girls from the Mandurah Catholic College who travelled to Port Hedland last week to visit asylum seekers at the detention centre, and the subsequent riot. (1) Were the parents advised of the nature of this trip and possible involvement with illegal immigrants prior to giving consent for their child to go to Port Hedland? (2) Was any government funding involved in this excursion? (3) Were the school pupils writing to the detainees prior to this excursion? (4) Was any attempt made by the teachers of the Mandurah Catholic College to contact the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs before the trip was undertaken; and, if so, what was the result? (5) Have any charges been laid with respect to the injuries suffered by staff during the riot at the Port Hedland detention centre? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD
