❓ The Premier avoids directly answering whether they could have used their parliamentary majority to change data retention laws related to G2G passes, instead accusing the opposition of hypocrisy and obstructionism.

POLICE — G2G PASS DATA
590. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Is
it not true that with the numbers in Parliament the way they are at the moment,
the Premier could have changed the length of the period that data was retained
and destroyed it?

Now the Leader of the Opposition is
saying that we should use our numbers to change the law in relation to this
matter, but when we use the government's mandate to put in place things
that are obviously of significance and far more important, the opposition
opposes them. At the moment, we are passing laws to step down the COVID rules,
as the opposition requested, and it is opposing them. Members opposite are
joining all those people—that crowd—out the front who are
screaming, yelling and running around with their flags upside down like I do
not know what! The Liberal Party and the Nationals WA are joining them in
opposing these laws. When we brought in that
legislation, in accordance with their request, they opposed it. Now they are
saying that we should change the law so that we destroy information.
That is what members opposite are suggesting—the government should
destroy information. If we were to do that, members of the opposition would
come in here and say that somehow we are trying
to hide things. That is what they would do because that is their nature. It does
not matter what we do, they will find a way of objecting to it. The
reality is that the laws exist. We are complying with the existing laws. If we
were to do what the opposition is
suggesting, it would come in and oppose it because that is its nature and that
is its record.
The SPEAKER : The Leader of
the Liberal Party with the last question.
