I refer to newspaper reports earlier this year concerning a contract awarded by the Department of Parks and Wildlife to a South African-owned business called Working on Fire to patrol, monitor and engage in bushfire suppression in Collie and ask: (a) can the Minister please advise the date the tender was released; (b) the date the tender was closed; (c) the date the contract was awarded; (d) whether the tender was an open tender; (e) how long the tender is for; and (f) what services were to be provided under the terms of the contract?

(a) The Department of Parks and Wildlife has not issued a tender, or entered into a formal term contract with Working on Fire. Working on Fire has been engaged on occasions, on a day-to-day fee-for-service basis as fire management circumstances have required.
(b)-(e) Not applicable.
(f) In the Collie area, Working on Fire has assisted the Department at times of high workload, by providing fire trucks, machines and crew members, to undertake work monitoring active prescribed burns and being on standby to respond to possible new bushfire outbreaks.
