I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the
Minister for Corrective Services.
(1) The
department continues to explore multiple accommodation options for girls and
younger children.
(2)–(3) This
work remains in development and we are exploring options as part of the
long-term custodial infrastructure plan and Kimberley juvenile justice
strategy. This is a highly complex area and the department remains committed to
providing the appropriate accommodation for all young people remanded in its
care. Please note that the current Western Australian youth custodial figures
are at 98, which is close to the lowest youth detention rate since September
2005.
