VENEREAL DISEASES - NOTIFICATION
Between 2001 and 2004, there were 708 notifications of venereal diseases in children under 14 years of age, including 16 for babies under 12 months of age. Given that under the venereal diseases amendment regulation published in the Government Gazette on 5 September this year, notifications will no longer be by prescribed form, but will be in a form and manner approved by the executive director of the Department of Health, I ask - (1) What is the form and manner, and what safeguards have been provided to ensure that the current minister and successive Ministers for Health cannot change this without parliamentary scrutiny? (2) Is the minister aware that some of the notification forms that will no longer be used include the notification of venereal disease, the notification of positive venereal disease test results, the notification of non-attendance and the notification of cure? (3) Will the information provided under the new process be compatible with existing records on venereal diseases to provide statistical continuity? Mr J.A. McGINTY

If the member for Roe were at all interested in receiving an intelligent response to that question, I would have received some notice of it. As to the distinction between a form prescribed by the regulations and a form prescribed by the director general, if the member would like to give me an indication of what information he is seeking, I will obtain an answer for him.
