(1) Will the new primary school to be built at Dalyellup have the same or a similar custom design as the new primary school to be built at Atwell and described in the media release of the Minister for Housing and Works dated 30 April 2003?
(2) If not, why not?
(3) What is the additional cost of a primary school ‘designed to meet sustainability objectives’ over and above the cost of a standard school design?
(4) What savings in annual operating costs can be expected from a school ‘designed to meet sustainability objectives’?
(5) Will all future primary schools to be built in Western Australia meet these sustainability objectives and, if not, why not?
(6) Does the Minister support a similar design to meet sustainability objectives being incorporated into all future Government high schools in the State and, if not, why not?

2. South Atwell Primary School is a one off design using a range of Ecologically Sustainable Design (ESD) principles. The purpose of this approach is to test the practical application of ESD theory in a school project. The applications will be monitored, measured and the results analysed in terms of value for money and appropriateness in a school setting. 3. South Atwell Primary School estimated total cost $6 800 000. Dalyellup Primary School estimated total cost $5 300 000. 4. Consumption of power and water at South Atwell Primary School will be 50% and 75% respectively compared to that used at a standard pattern non air-cooled school. It is estimated that the reduced consumption will equate to a saving of approximately $15 000 a year. Additional benefits include the elimination of greenhouse gas emission from the site, and improved internal comfort conditions in the buildings. 5. Not initially. It is proposed to undertake the analysis and evaluation before taking such a decision. New schools will continue to incorporate architectural best practice including a number of passive design principles. 6. Subject to the outcome of the evaluation, sustainability objectives will be considered for incorporation in the design of future schools.
