HALLS CREEK — ALCOHOL SALES
Is it the intention of the government to further restrict the sale of alcohol in Halls Creek; and, if so, what restrictions are to be implemented and when? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for the question. I vividly remember Hon George Cash making some comments a while back that Halls Creek is much better than it used to be. The conditions placed on the licence at Fitzroy Crossing have produced some very positive outcomes for that town. However, that is not to suggest that there have not also been some issues resulting from the decision made by the Director of Liquor Licensing on the sale of take-away liquor. There is no proposal from the government to introduce the same restrictions in Halls Creek. Any decision about the sale of alcohol in Halls Creek, or anywhere else, as a condition of a licence, can be made only by the Director of Liquor Licensing. I know that the director has a keen interest in Halls Creek and I understand that community meetings have been held in Halls Creek to discuss issues related to the impact of alcohol on the local community. I understand that the community itself is of the view that it does not wish to go down the same path as Fitzroy Crossing. The conditions applied to the licence in Fitzroy Crossing by the Director of Liquor Licensing were in response to the wishes of the community. I hope that provides the answer that the Leader of the Opposition was looking for. Whether further restrictions are to be applied is a decision of the Director of Liquor Licensing.
