ENERGY SAFETY BILL
218. Hon KATE DOUST to the
Minister for Commerce:
I refer to cabinet's
approval in June 2013 to draft a new Energy Safety Bill. It is a question
without notice so it will not be in the minister's file.
(1) Why has it taken
so long to draft?
(2) Given that it is
now March 2016, when can we expect the Energy Safety Bill to be tabled?
(3) Will the
minister guarantee that the bill will be tabled before the next state election
in March 2017?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(3)
Considerable work had been done on the Energy Safety Bill. However, that work
has now been suspended in light of the government's priorities in other
areas of legislation to do with the commerce portfolio. However, it would be
the government's intention to introduce the revised Energy Safety Bill
when it assumes office after the March 2017 election.
