CAMP SCHOOLS —
2019 BOOKINGS
242. Hon JIM CHOWN to the Minister for Education and
Training:
(1) Are the camp
schools that are due to be operated by private entities, at the completion of
2018, taking bookings for the 2019 school year?
(2) If yes to
(1), is it appropriate for those government camp schools to take bookings on
behalf of a future commercial entity that may have different practices than the
highly regarded practices of today?
(3) If no to (1),
how will the minister ascertain the correct value for tenders without a clientele
base who would be attending the camp schools in the future year and that
normally book one year in advance?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes, camp
schools are taking bookings for 2019. Until the tender process is complete, it
will not be known whether the successful operator or operators come from the
government, not-for-profit or private sector.
(2) The camp
schools are not taking bookings on behalf of any entity. They have been advised
to take tentative bookings for 2019 so that schools can reserve a place for
next year. Once the successful operator or operators are determined in the
second half of 2018, schools will be advised of the fees and invited to
finalise their bookings.
(3) Not applicable.
