NICKEL INDUSTRY
69. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
On
Sunday, the Prime Minister said he was confident he could save the nickel
industry, but yesterday he was quoted as all but killing off any
prospect of a production tax credit, suggesting that any discussion of a tax
credit was journalists getting ahead of themselves.
I also note that the Premier was at great pains to point out the Prime Minister's support for the nickel industry.
Did the Premier implore the Prime
Minister to consider a production tax credit for Western Australia's
nickel industry: yes or no?

AnswerView source ↗

I
do not think anything is off the table when it comes to supporting the nickel
industry. A production tax credit is one of the items that industry
representatives have raised as an important incentive for companies to continue
to develop and maintain their downstream processing capabilities so that we can
move further up the value chain in battery manufacture. I think the Prime
Minister is very wise not to rule out measures because we need to see exactly
what the industry needs.
