PASTORAL
LEASES — RENEWAL
1361. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Lands:
I refer to the pastoral lease renewal process.
(1) If it is determined that a property does
not receive a lease renewal come 30 June 2015 and the leaseholder walks off the
property, who will maintain the property, including fencing and vermin control?
(2) Considering the number of noncompliant
properties, if the majority of these walk off, how does the department intend
to manage the situation?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Any pastoral
leases not renewed in 2015 will become unallocated crown land. The state of
Western Australia is responsible for management of unallocated crown land.
(2) The
Department of Lands is working closely with all lessees and the Pastoralists
and Graziers Association of Western Australia to minimise the number of
noncompliant leases on or before 30 June 2015. Should a lease not be renewed
due to noncompliance, the properties will revert to unallocated crown land.
