With regard to fires on Walling Rock Station on or around Saturday, 4 June 2011 and answers to questions without notice from the Minister for the Environment on Wednesday, 21 September 2011, I ask -
(1) Did the Shire of Menzies give permission for the lighting of fires?
(2) If yes to (1), what were the permit conditions?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) Why did the Shire of Menzies only advise the Department of Environment and Conservation about the fire on 25 August 2011?
(5) Does the Shire of Menzies know who lit the fire?
(6) If yes to (5), what action is the Shire of Menzies taking in regard to prosecuting those responsible for setting the fire?
(7) If no to (5), what action is the Shire of Menzies taking to find the perpetrators?

(3) The Shire was not requested to provide a permit for the lighting of fires.
(4) Once the Shire became aware of the fire, it was reported to the Department of Environment and Conservation's Regional Office in Kalgoorlie, on 25 August 2011.

(7) The Shire is not taking action to find the perpetrator/s as the Crown Reserve land in question is controlled by the Department of Environment and Conservation.
