I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) There are currently no plans to construct passing lanes on Chester Pass Road. (a) Not applicable. (b) The current and projected traffic volumes and existing passing opportunities on Chester Pass Road outside the Albany CBD do not indicate that expenditure on additional passing lanes is warranted on the road at this time when compared with other higher priority roadworks around the State. Main Roads periodically reviews the demands on the road network, including Chester Pass Road, and the provision of any required upgrading will be considered as part of future state budget considerations. (2) Yes. (a) Construction of a dual carriageway on Chester Pass Road from Mercer Road to Bakers Junction in the city of Albany has been identified as required within the next 10 years. The actual timing of the work will be reviewed against other statewide priorities and considered as part of future budget considerations. (b) Not applicable. (3) The Albany heavy freight forum action plan includes a range of initiatives to address the impact of heavy vehicles mixing with light vehicles on the entries to Albany and provides direction for the development and management of heavy freight access to the port of Albany. Included in the action plan are strategies and actions involving relevant work on Chester Pass Road.
