Perth motorplex
1209. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer the minister
to reports in this morning's The West Australian suggesting that one of the biggest winners from the Perth motorplex debacle is
likely to be the Coffin Cheaters after a closely linked company won a $5
million tender to build the new drag strip at Burswood.
(1) What due diligence, if any, was undertaken by
the government ahead of awarding this particular contract?
(2) Did the minister consult with the Minister for
Police at any point, if only to obtain a briefing on how the Cook Labor
government purports to deal with outlaw organisations?
(3) Will the minister stop blaming VenuesWest and
take proper ministerial responsibility for the organisations that report to her
and do the decent thing, which would be to resign?
Hon Matthew Swinbourn: Member, you're confusing
the location of the Perth motorplex. It is in Kwinana, not Burswood.
The President: Order! Thank you.
Hon Samantha Rowe: Do you want to answer the
question?
Hon Matthew Swinbourn: I could. Good bogans
know where the motorplexes are!
The President: Order! Thank you, minister. You are let
off the leash.

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) The member
may wish to read the article he referenced. The Perth motorplex is based in
Kwinana and there is no intention of building a drag strip at Perth Park.
