DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITIES —
EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES PROGRAM
444. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Community Services:
I refer to the Department of
Communities' Empowering Communities program.
(1) Will the minister provide a list
of successful applicants for this funding?
(2) On what
grounds was it recently decided that the Newman Neighbourhood Centre would no
longer receive funding?
(3) In light
of recent comments by the Minister for State Development indicating that the
government is supportive of rebuilding a residential Newman community, does the
minister agree that the decision to discontinue funding will have a detrimental
and lasting impact on this process?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(3) Yes. I will table the attached document.
Newman Neighbourhood Centre
submitted an offer as part of the Empowering Communities program tender
process. However, it was not awarded a service agreement. The Department of
Communities advised the organisation of the outcome of the tender process on 14
December 2018. The respondent's tender offer is confidential and cannot
be disclosed. Communities has offered it feedback on its tender content.
Communities is committed to
extending the Newman Neighbourhood Centre's existing service agreement
to 30 June 2020. Communities is working with Newman Neighbourhood Centre to
assist it to demonstrate alignment with the Empowering Communities program. If this
is achieved, the organisation will be invited to submit an offer, in line with
State Supply Commission policies, which will be formally assessed by an
evaluation panel.
