TRANSPORT, CONCESSIONS
Can the minister inform the House of new concessions available to users of the State’s public transport system? Mrs ROBERTS

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the question, and for her obvious interest in public transport matters. I am pleased to announce to the House that, as of Saturday, travellers on the public transport system will be able to use their tickets for longer periods. This initiative is part of the Government’s commitment to encouraging people back to using Perth’s public transport system, and reversing the decline that was the legacy of the previous Government. Public transport users will now get far more value for their tickets. The extended time changes will allow people to use their tickets for a longer time, and will give opportunity to transfer to another service. Under the previous Government, fares for the disadvantaged increased significantly. In some cases, concession fares rose by 243 per cent over eight years. In stark contrast, the Gallop Government has frozen the fares for pensioners and holders of concession cards at their current levels, which was an election commitment. The Gallop Government has reversed these decisions of the previous Government, and is achieving its commitment to expanding and improving access to our public transport system.
