I am very pleased to ask this question because I know that the minister, as the former Minister for Education and Training, has some ownership of this matter. (1) Will the minister confirm that the government will honour the commitment it gave on 8 December 2004 as part of the development of the Mt Barker community’s “One College, One Community” vision to provide a kindergarten to year 12 facility in the town, with the construction of a $7 million new Mr Barker primary school being the first stage of the project? (2) If yes, will the minister advise whether a project manager has been appointed to oversee the planning and construction of the new Mt Barker primary school? (3) If no, will the minister advise why a project manager has not yet been appointed to oversee the planning and construction of the new Mt Barker primary school? Mr A.J. CARPENTER

(1)-(3) I thank the member for some notice of this question. I had the answer to this question ready yesterday. I remember the project very well. Firstly, I congratulate the people of Mt Barker and the school community for formulating the proposal for an education precinct. It is a brilliant concept. I thank those people who drove the project so hard. It was a great pleasure to announce funding allocation of $7 million for the first stage, which is to co-locate the primary school with the high school. The $7 million for that project has been committed. An architect will be appointed to manage and design the project during the middle this year; that is, at the end of the second term. The finances will be available for the project to begin in the new financial year. It will deliver a great benefit to Mt Barker.
