WESTERN TRADE COAST INDUSTRIES COMMITTEE
242. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Premier:
I refer to the Premier's recent closure of the
Western Trade Coast Industries Committee and the removal of Hon Phil Edman as its chair.
(1) Why has
the Premier defunded the Western Trade Coast Industries Committee, which he
personally created in 2011 and which he said would help generate thousands of
jobs?
(2) Does he
agree with Mr Edman, as stated in his press release, that the demise of this
committee will mean that industry representatives will not have clear
communication channels to the state government or to coordinate economic
activities and growth in the area?

(1)–(2) The
Western Trade Coast Industries Committee was always a temporary organisation.
It has done some good work, but its work is largely finished.
Mr
M. McGowan interjected.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : That is the case. The Kwinana Industries Council, I think,
fills that void. We are making a series of savings. That organisation did good
work; I thank it for the work it did. I thank Hon Phil Edman; I think he did some good work as well. But it has
come to an end. Its work has been done; that is it.
