POLICE ACT — SUPREME COURT DECISION
I refer to the recent Supreme Court decision that limits the powers of the Commissioner of Police to remove an officer under section 8 of the Police Act when he has lost confidence in that person, and the commissioner’s comments that the laws need amending. (1) Does the minister intend to do that, or are the existing laws satisfactory? (2) Does the current state of law make the commissioner’s position untenable? Hon PETER COLLIER
