REGIONAL AREAS - CAPITAL WORKS PROGRAM
I refer to comments made by the Treasurer in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, 31 May 2006 about the state government’s 2006-07 $5 billion capital works program and the percentage of the budget spent in regional areas, and the fact that $903 million of the $5 billion will be spent in non-metropolitan regions. (1) How much of the $903 million will go to each of the following regions - (a) Gascoyne; (b) goldfields-Esperance; (c) great southern; (d) Kimberley; (e) mid-west; (f) Peel; (g) Pilbara; (h) south west; and (i) wheatbelt? (2) For each of the regions, can the minister provide details on - (a) each project funded; (b) the amount allocated to each project in 2006-07; (c) the total cost of the capital works project; and (d) the expected completion date? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Treasurer provides the following response - (1) (a) Gascoyne, $22.569 million. (b) Goldfields-Esperance, $113.771 million. (c) Great southern, $60.047 million. (d) Kimberley, $128.545 million. (e) Mid-west, $58.557 million. (f) Peel, $118.646 million. (g) Pilbara, $136.447 million. (h) South west, $199.962 million. (i) Wheatbelt, $65.132 million. In addition, it is not correct to say that only $903 million will be spent on the regions because a large portion of the capital works program is not easily allocated to particular regions as it relates to matters with statewide significance. (2) It is not possible to assemble this information in the time provided.
