I refer to the Minister's answer to Legislative Assembly question on notice No. 7333, regarding the foetal alcohol spectrum disorder training received by paediatricians and other health professionals within the Child Development Services, and I ask -
(1) How many staff from within the Child Development Services have received training specific to foetal alcohol spectrum disorder in the following years -
(a) 2008 - 09;
(b) 2009 - 10;
(c) 2010 - 11; and
(d) 2011-12?
(2) Who is the training provided by?
(3) What is the length and extent of training provided?
(4) What requirements, if any, are there for staff to receive ongoing professional development specific to foetal alcohol spectrum disorder?

(1)(a) 2008-09: 4 Child Development Service (CDS) staff members;
(b) 2009-10: 1 CDS staff member;
(c) 2010-11: 2 CDS staff members; and
(d) 2011-12: 1 CDS staff member.
(2) The training is provided by the University of Washington and Children's Research Triangle Chicago, and United States-based psychologist, Diane Malbin, who is a specialist in Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
(3) The University of Washington offers training of 10 days duration and/or an eight module online training program.
(4) All CDS clinical staff are required to participate in regular ongoing professional training in all key child development areas. This includes ongoing professional training in the diagnosis and clinical management of FASD.
