I refer to question without notice 967 that I asked on 19 December 2001, and to the claim that the Government has identified $852 million in savings. (1) Have all departments and agencies achieved their respective savings to date, and if not, which departments and agencies are unable to meet their savings target? (2) Will the minister identify the actual proportion of savings achieved by each department or agency as at 31 December 2001? Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. I know Hon George Cash took great pleasure in asking the question. (1)-(2) The savings targets of $852 million were deducted from the agencies as part of the 2001-02 budget formulation process and are reflected in the budget papers for 2001-02 and the forward years that were tabled on 13 September 2001. The Government remains committed to realising the savings target. Current indications are that this target will be met. The mid-year review financial projections statement provides an overview of the State’s finances and any variations by agencies from the budget projections. The 2002-03 budget papers will provide further information for each agency including estimated actuals for 2001-02. These information sources should enable identification of performance in realising the savings targets.
