(b) according to the Government publication On Track Issue One with the Premier’s photograph and message on page 1, the Mandurah to Perth Railway will stop at a new station called Central Station south of the Hay Street Mall and then be linked to a new Fitzgerald Street Station at the western end of the City but not to the existing Perth Central Railway Station?
As a result of concerns raised with the Government's preferred route through the city we have established an independent Advisory Committee to consider alternative routes from the Narrows bridge into the city; The Committee will ensure that a wide range of opinions will be examined and that the State Government makes the best decision; The Committee's tasks are to: seek the views of interested parties; evaluate options and recommend a preferred rail alignment and station locations through the city; and advise on strategies for minimising disruption during the construction and operational phases. The Committee has received 55 public submissions and will submit its final report early in February 2002.
