I refer to contested traffic offences heard in The Joondalup Traffic Court, and I ask -
(1) How many cases are currently waiting for hearing and deposition?
(2) Of these cases, what is the average waiting time between a case being set down for hearing, and final deposition?
(3) What mechanisms have been put in place to reduce the delay?

(1)
At 26 October 2010 there are 117 traffic matters listed for trial.
(2) In 2009/10 if a traffic matter was listed before the Joondalup Court for a trial, the average waiting time between the plea of not guilty and the trial was 12 weeks. In October 2010, the time to trial for traffic matters remains at 12 weeks.
(3) The Court has increased to listing three 'traffic trial' days per month from January 2011. On each occasion up to 20 trials will be listed as there has historically been an 85-95% fall out rate.
