TAB —
PRIVATISATION — TRACKSIDE
777. Mr J.E. McGRATH to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Does the Premier realise that his personal credibility and integrity is being
quickly eroded the longer he continues the charade that he has not backflipped
on the TAB sale and Trackside gambling?

AnswerView source ↗

This is a bit beneath the member for
South Perth, but I will answer it anyway.
Prior to the state election, I said
on a number of occasions, as I said in answer to an earlier question, that we
would consult the industry and that our position on the sale of the TAB would
be guided by that consultation. That is what I said! I said it numerous times.
That is what we have done. I regard Trackside as relatively benign. We said—and
I stand by it—that we rule out poker machines and would fight to the
death the introduction of poker machines and gaming machines broadly across Western
Australia. That is our position. We have never wobbled on that. The Liberals
and the Nationals have. To be frank, they have. The opposition can score
whatever points it wants. We just want to get the best deal for racing in WA.
