POLICE — CRIME
STATISTICS — NORTHBRIDGE
724. Mr P.A. KATSAMBANIS to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Given that the number of assaults in Northbridge has increased by 39 per cent
in 12 months, if the Premier is really serious about this issue, as he
expressed his seriousness today, what additional resources will he provide
police to deal with this out-of-control violence?

As I said, the metropolitan crime
rates have declined.
Mr A. Krsticevic interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Carine!
Mr
M. McGOWAN : Crime rates for
assaults, home burglaries, non-dwelling burglaries, motor vehicle theft and stealing
have all declined since this government has been in office and with this
Minister for Police, Hon Michelle Roberts, versus when the member for
Scarborough, Hon Liza Harvey, was Minister for Police. Funding to the Western Australia
Police Force has increased significantly since we have been in office, and we have put in place the meth border force. The last
government sat on its hands when it came to methamphetamine; it took no
action whatsoever. This government is taking comprehensive action on these
important issues confronting Western Australia.
