PUBLIC TRANSPORT — TRAIN PURCHASE
975. Hon ED DERMER to the minister representing the Minister
for Transport:
I refer to the minister's answer to question without
notice 960 asked on 14 November 2012.
(1) Will the
minister confirm his answer that the amount allocated in the forward estimates
for the 22 new three-car trains on order is $7.339 million?
(2) If no to (1), what is the
correct amount and in which financial years is it allocated?
(3) Is the amount
given by the minister the only money allocated in the forward estimates for the
operation of any of the 22 new trains?
(4) In light of
the minister's advice that each train will have an annual operating
cost of approximately $l.2 million, why is so little money allocated in the
forward estimates for the cost of operating the 22 new trains?

I thank the honourable member for notice of this question.
The Public Transport Authority advises —
(1) No. My
response to question without notice 960 and earlier to question without notice
945 was in relation to the five new three railcar set trains, as he asked, not
the 22 new three railcar set trains.
(2) I draw the
member's attention to the answer provided yesterday in question without
notice 960(3) regarding the estimated annual operating costs for the 22 new
trains.
(3) The
estimated cost of operating the 22 new three railcar set trains on order is
provided for in the forward estimates.
(4) My
response regarding the annual operating cost of approximately $1.22 million in
question without notice 945(2) was in relation to the five new three railcar
set trains and not the 22 new three railcar set trains.
I hope that
has clarified everything.
