(a - b) The guidelines for Laparoscopic Gastric Banding for WACHS - South West were drafted collaboratively by all professionals essential to the process, and were based on existing guidelines from international services with greater experience of the technique.
An age range of 18 to 65 years was chosen as it was in keeping with the international experience. Although patients outside of this range may still benefit, they are likely to be at higher clinical risk.
With the recent experience gained at Bunbury Hospital, in the future applications will be considered for patients who fall outside of the agreed guidelines, with each case being assessed on its individual merits by the specialist health professionals.
