(2) Small hearing aids, watches and medical devices have batteries containing mercuric oxide. The State Government does not have programs in place to collect and dispose of these batteries, however, there are a number of locations run by Local Government across the metropolitan area that accept HHW including batteries. (3) The State Government does not have programs in place to collect, recycle, re-use or dispose of waste oil. This is an activity that is undertaken by industry. There are three firms operating in Western Australia which provide oil recycling services. These firms can take advantage of a recycling rebate scheme operated by the Commonwealth Department of Environment and Heritage. The Commonwealth applies a levy of $0.05 per litre on all lubricating oil sold to raise the funds for this rebate scheme. (4) The disposal of used motor vehicle tyres is regulated by the Environmental Protection Regulations (Used Tyres) 1987 . The Department of Environment is currently participating in discussions with the Commonwealth, other State Government Departments and industry on the development of a national strategy for used tyre management.
