Gender dysphoria—Puberty blockers
274. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for
Health:
I refer to the
growing number of countries, including the United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland,
that have severely restricted or banned puberty blockers and hormones for
minors with gender dysphoria.
(1) In light of the
accumulating evidence, will the minister commit to reviewing the treatment
guidelines for treating minors with gender dysphoria in Western Australia?
(2) If not, why not?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(2) The Australian Government made a
request in January 2025 for the National Health and Medical Research Council to
undertake a comprehensive review of the Australian
Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines for trans and gender diverse children
and adolescents , and to develop national guidelines.
