Big battery storage systems
135. Hon Dr Steve Thomas to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
Happy Thursday. I
refer to the charging of the state's big battery energy storage systems
(BESSs).
For the Collie BESS
and Kwinana BESS, what percentage of power going to the battery recharge at
each site comes from coal generation, gas generation, wind generation and
rooftop solar generation?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided by the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation.
The charging and
discharging of batteries in the mix of generation assets that are operational
during each trading interval is dependent on system needs, as determined by the
Australian Energy Market Operator.
