505. Hon RICK MAZZA to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Transport:
Members have been advised by the Minister for Transport that
the AvonLink train service will be
replaced by a luxury coach service, beginning January 2014. Will the Minister
for Transport please advise whether the luxury service will —
(1) Cater for the frail and the disabled?
(2) Provide ease of entry and exit for wheelchairs and prams?
(3) Be appropriately equipped for the carriage of
wheelchairs, prams and the occupants?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
The Public Transport Authority advises —
(1)–(3)
The provision of AvonLink train
services operating between Midland and Northam will be replaced by a luxury,
fully accessible Transwa road coach. The accessible features of the road coach
include a wheelchair lift for passengers with a disability and a coach kneeling
function to enable frail passengers or those with mobility restrictions easier
access to the coach cabin. Prams will be carried in the luggage storage bay of
the road coach.
