FREMANTLE PORT — ASSET SALES
136. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Treasurer:
Prior to asking my first question,
on behalf of the member for Armadale, can I acknowledge students from Dale Christian
School who are here in the gallery today.
I refer to the Premier's
comments last week that the introduction of legislation for the Fremantle port
privatisation will be introduced ''hopefully, in the next two weeks''
and the Treasurer's admission yesterday that clearly, this hurdle has
got higher.
(1) What has changed with the
legislation that has pushed out the Premier's two-week time line?
(2) Is this not
an admission that the Treasurer has not completed all of the due diligence and
he was, in fact, rushing the whole process?

(1)–(2) Absolute rubbish!
Mrs
M.H. Roberts : What—what you said yesterday?
Dr
M.D. NAHAN : No, I said the hurdles got higher but, you know, I can jump
high hurdles—higher than you!
We will bring on the legislation in
the next sitting of Parliament.
Several members interjected.
Dr
M.D. NAHAN : Yes, when Parliament is sitting. The hurdles got higher but we
are jumping the hurdle and bringing it here. It is detailed; it addresses all
the issues that have been asked.
Mr
B.S. Wyatt : Apparently it doesn't!
Dr
M.D. NAHAN : Apparently it does! When the member for Victoria Park sees it,
he will be shocked at the detail provided! I am not sure whether he will be
able to comprehend it, but he will be shocked at the details.
