I refer to recommendation 52 of the Commissioner for Children and Young People’s Report on the
Inquiry into the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Children and Young People
from April this year, which refers to the need for ‘step-down’ supported accommodation for children and young people discharged from acute in-patient care, and I ask -
(1) Will the Minister commit to making ‘step-down’ short-term residential facilities available specifically for young people being discharged from acute in-patient care?
(2) If yes to (1), when is this likely to occur?
(3) If no to (1), why not?

(1) Wherever possible the preferred community treatment approach for young people being discharged from acute inpatient services will be to return to their usual place of residence, with the necessary inreach services provided to support them. 'Step-down' residential services will be available for young people aged 18 years and over in Joondalup, Rockingham and Broome.
(2) Joondalup will be available in 2012/13. It is expected that Rockingham will be available in 2013/14 and Broome in 2013/14.
(3) Not applicable.
