DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND
ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION — GREEN JOBS PLAN
1073. Hon DIANE EVERS to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to the $60 million of
funding allocated in the budget for the green jobs plan, and the coordination
and delivery of the program through the Department of Water and Environmental
Regulation.
(1) How much will be delivered to
community environmental organisations?
(2) Will DWER
make use of the existing systems and processes of the state natural resource
management office for contracting these groups, or will it create a duplicate
structure to operate within DWER?
(3) Will any of this be funded
through the royalties for regions program?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The McGowan government's $60.3 million
green jobs plan recognises the multiple benefits and job-creating potential of conservation projects. The green jobs
plan is just one of the measures this government is taking to help the
state recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. An initial $2.6 million
of funding for both the Offset Funds for
Recovery program and native vegetation rehabilitation scheme in the 2020–21 financial year will be delivered through
community organisations and natural resource management groups . It is
intended that these organisations will deliver substantial elements of the
green jobs plan.
(2) DWER is
partnering with a number of agencies and organisations to deliver the
government's green jobs plan. The
department will be making use of the existing systems and processes of the
state natural resource management office to provide grant funding.
(3) The $25 million
Healthy Estuaries WA program will continue to be funded through royalties for regions.
