WELLINGTON STREET BUSPORT — BUS PLATFORM
ALLOCATION SYSTEM
1329. Hon
KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
Welcome back, member. I refer to the plan to use a dynamic bus platform
allocation system at the new Wellington Street busport.
(1) What will be the average time between a
bus being allocated an available bay and the departure of that bus?
(2) Will passengers be required to purchase cash fares prior to
boarding a bus?
(3) If no to (2), why not?
(4) Does the minister have any concerns about
the impact this system will have on seniors and those with mobility
difficulties?
(5) If yes to (4), how will these be addressed?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question. I am happy to be back and
happy to be acknowledged to be back by Hon Ken Travers.
(1) It is envisaged
that the average time will be approximately three to four minutes.
(2) No.
(3) Ticketing arrangements will be consistent
with current practice, which allows passengers to purchase a cash ticket from
the bus driver or use their SmartRider ticket.
(4)–(5) Passengers will be informed
of the relevant zone that they need to depart from prior to departure to
minimise walking distances. Discussions have been held with access and
inclusion reference groups to enable an education campaign to be developed to
assist passengers to understand how the new system will operate prior to the
commencement of the facility.
