DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION — MISCONDUCT
ALLEGATIONS
192. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH to the Minister for Education:
I refer to the 229 child protection allegations being dealt
with by the department, as shown in table 17, on page 48 of the Department of
Education's annual report for 2011–12.
(1) Can the
minister provide a breakdown of the categories of misconduct for the 229 matters
that were managed locally with central oversight?
(2) Have any
matters been referred to the Corruption and Crime Commission?
(3) If yes to
(2), how many?
(4) If no to
(2), why not?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
This question
number is 128, is it not?
Hon
Ljiljanna Ravlich : No, it
is (1)–(4).
Hon PETER COLLIER : Can I just take one second, Mr President?
The operating of the questions has now been streamlined, so each question has a
number on it. The reason that the questions office has done that is to make it
easier when there are multiple questions. I have 11 questions here from Hon Ljiljanna
Ravlich.
Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich : So you have.
Hon PETER COLLIER : All I am saying is —
Hon Sue Ellery : Would you take an interjection? We've
been told not to refer to those numbers.
Hon PETER COLLIER : No; can I just explain? I went to the
questions office. I am trying to streamline the process. When I have 11
questions that are all very, very similar —
Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich : Well, let me read it out again to you.
Hon PETER COLLIER : No; let me just explain. The whole reason
that the questions office did it was to make it easier so that I did not do
what happened last week when I answered the wrong question. Apparently, the
questions office provided the Leader of the Opposition's office with
the numbers of the questions, so that is all I am asking.
Hon Sue Ellery : We were told not to use them.
The PRESIDENT : Member, if you have a copy of your
question, could you get one of the attendants to bring it over?
Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich : Yes, I can. I will give you a copy,
minister—no excuse. You look in your folder and we can come back to
you, if necessary.
Hon PETER COLLIER : I thank the honourable member for being so
accommodating.
Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich : You are just so evasive.
Hon PETER COLLIER : It does not help when so many questions
look the same.
This is it. Now I
will be delighted to give the honourable member a response.
Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich : You had the right one. You are just
wasting time.
Hon PETER COLLIER : If the member comes up for air, I might
answer.
The PRESIDENT : Order!
Hon PETER COLLIER : The answer is —
(1) The information
requested cannot be provided in the time available.
Several members
interjected.
Hon PETER COLLIER : As I always say, these questions all came
in on the same day. Members should take note of this: they all came in on the
same day, they were all without notice and they all required an enormous amount
of information.
Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich : They were from your annual report. They
had already been collated; the answers are already collated and you know it.
The PRESIDENT : Order!
Hon PETER COLLIER : To show how accommodating I am, as always,
I will answer the second part of that question.
I will provide this
information to the honourable member by 20 June 2013, which is two sleeps'
time. It does not mean the member has to put it on notice for nine sitting
days. It means I am going to give it to the member in two more days, as I will
with all of the responses here. I continue —
(2) Yes.
(3) 229.
(4) Not applicable.
