WA pest parrot and cockatoo management strategy
89. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the Minister for
Agriculture and Food:
I refer the minister
to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development website, where
I note that there is a link requesting community feedback on a proposed Western
Australian pest parrot and cockatoo management strategy. The consultation
closed in March 2023, almost three years ago to the day, yet I have been
advised by a number of local government representatives that they have been
told that any such strategy is still a work in progress.
(1) Does the department remain committed
to the establishment of a statewide policy?
(2) If yes to (1), when can we expect to
see it?
(3) If no to (1), would it be fair to say
that this is one more example of government priorities that simply do not align
with those of the general public?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) The department
has prepared two documents outlining the approach to the management of pest
parrots and cockatoos in Western Australia. These documents are now
available on the department's website. Electronic copies will also be sent
directly to stakeholders who participated in the consultation process.
I table a copy of the report Pest Parrot and Cockatoo Management in Western Australia with guidelines for the management of pest parrots and cockatoos in Western
Australia".
