Health—Long-stay patients
346. Mr Bevan Eatts to
the Minister for Health:
I have a
supplementary question. We have seen this government make multimillion-dollar decisions
overnight when the political pressure is on. Why does the minister keep
dragging her feet when it comes to fixing aged care in our hospitals?
Point of order
Mr David Michael: There was quite a large preamble to
what is meant to be a supplementary question, which is not allowed under the
standing orders.
The Speaker: I will uphold that point of order, member.
Supplementary questions do not have a preamble to them. They should be a very
short and succinct question, so if you would like to try that again, that would
be great.

Mr Bevan Eatts: No worries. Why does the minister and
the Labor government keep dragging their feet when it comes to fixing aged care
in our hospitals?

I totally reject
that we are dragging our feet. We are doing a range of things that are

Ms Meredith Hammat: I am glad, actually, for the
supplementary, because I forgot to mention our older adult health clubs, which
are another important initiative to provide care to older Western Australians
to ensure that they are able to age well. We are doing a range of things as a
state government. We understand that this is such an important issue, not just
because we want our older Western Australians to be able to age with dignity,
no matter where they live in this state, but also because it is a critical
piece of the puzzle for ensuring that we are doing everything we can to make
sure that Western Australians have access to the health care that they need.
That is why we will go to Canberra and advocate for more. That is why we are
looking at what more we can do here. But we are not sitting on our hands; we
have a range of initiatives designed specifically to address this problem.
