I refer the Minister to police officers in acting
positions, and ask: (a) How many police officers are currently performing in
an acting position; (b) What is the breakdown according to rank of officers in an acting position; (c) How many officers by rank have been in an acting role for
six months and how many have been in an acting role for longer than 12 months; (d) How many officers are in acting roles in the metropolitan area and how many are in regional Western Australia; (e) What is the breakdown by rank of officers in acting roles in the metropolitan area and regional Western Australia; and (f) How many officers (including their rank) based in the metropolitan
area have been temporarily seconded to act in a regional posting?

The Western Australian Police Force advise:
Responses are reflective of acting arrangements as at 13 May 2019. Acting is primarily undertaken when the usual occupant is on leave or otherwise unavailable, or, less frequently, to fill vacant positions.
(a) 349
(b) 3 Assistant Commanders, 6 Commanders, 20 Superintendent, 42 Inspectors, 68 Senior Sergeants, 205 Sergeants, 3 Constable (Brevet Sergeant), 1 Level 7, and 1 Level 6.
(c) 1 Superintendent, 2 Inspectors and 4 Senior Sergeants have been acting longer than 12 months. 1 Superintendent, 1 Inspector, 1 Senior Sergeant and 2 Sergeants have been acting between 6 months and 12 months.
(d) 265 acting in the metropolitan area, 84 in regional locations.
(e) There are 3 Assistant Commissioners, 6 Commanders, 17 Superintendents, 35 Inspectors, 59 Senior Sergeants, 143 Sergeants, 1 Level 7 and 1 Level 6 in the metropolitan area. There are 3 Superintendents, 7 Inspectors, 9 Senior Sergeants, 62 Sergeants and 3 Constable (Brevet Sergeants) in regional areas.
(f) There are no metropolitan based officers seconded to act in a regional posting.
