I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) Based on the latest programming information provided by its contractors, the Public Transport Authority is targeting mid-October 2007 for an approximately six-day shutdown, most likely including a weekend, enabling connection of the existing northern suburbs railway to the new southern suburbs railway. The entire Perth-Fremantle service and the northern suburbs service between Perth and Stirling will be closed during the shutdown. (2) As for other shutdowns, bus replacement will be provided by the Public Transport Authority. The shutdown will be preceded by a comprehensive public awareness exercise to ensure affected patrons are properly informed and have ample opportunity to plan alternative travel arrangements if appropriate. Transperth has approached the City of Perth to provide additional temporary parking, and it has given approval in principle for the use of Ozone Reserve, subject to confirmation of the exact dates of closure. The shutdown is proposed to commence after the Royal Show, which runs from Saturday, 29 September to Saturday, 6 October. The shutdown target is mid-October. (3) There is no such compensation entitlement, but the minister has indicated that she will consider rent holidays for the lease of stations where there are no services for more than two days.
